Your Radiotherapy Journey
Understanding your treatment steps helps reduce anxiety. Here is what to expect from diagnosis to recovery at PMGH Cancer Care.
01.Referral to Cancer Centre
Your doctor refers you to PMGH Cancer Centre. You will be welcomed at our reception desk where our friendly staff will help you register.
- Bring your referral letter
- Bring any previous scans (CT, X-ray)
- Bring pathology reports

02.Consultation & Counselling
You will meet your Oncologist (Cancer Doctor) to discuss your diagnosis and treatment options. A nurse counsellor will also be there to support you.
- Ask any questions you have
- Discuss treatment goals
- Sign consent forms if you agree to treat

03.CT Simulation (Planning Scan)
Before treatment starts, we take a special CT scan to map your body. We may make a custom mask or mold to help you stay still directly.
- Takes about 20-30 minutes
- Painless procedure
- Permanent ink marks (tattoos) may be used

04.Treatment Planning
Our doctors and medical physicists use powerful computers to design a radiation plan just for you. This happens behind the scenes and takes 1-2 weeks.
- Complex calculations for safety
- Quality assurance checks
- No appointment needed for this step

05.Daily Treatment
You come for treatment every day (Mon-Fri) for several weeks. The machine moves around you but does not touch you. It is invisible and painless.
- Treatment takes only 10-15 minutes
- You can breathe normally
- You will not be radioactive afterwards

06.Weekly Review
Once a week, you will see your doctor or nurse to check how you are feeling and manage any side effects.
- Monitor skin reactions
- Manage diet and nutrition
- Adjust medications if needed

07.Completion & Follow-up
On your last day, you ring the bell! We will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery.
- Certificate of completion
- Discharge summary for your referrer
- Long-term monitoring plan
