About PMGH Cancer Care

To realize the dream of self-sufficient cancer care in PNG, a state-of-the-art center was envisioned at Port Moresby General Hospital. We are witnessing history in the making.

The Cancer Burden in PNG

According to the Globocan 2025 report, Papua New Guinea ranks third in cancer incidence in the Oceania region, after Australia and New Zealand.

The high mortality rate is primarily driven by a lack of facilities and late presentation due to low awareness. Establishing this center is paramount to identifying and treating patients in early stages, with a goal to reduce the yearly mortality rate from 65% to less than 40%.

"A cure rate of over 90% is achievable for early stages of cancer."
