With cancer cases rising, the country urgently needs homegrown specialists to serve communities in need. Trainees will gain skills in SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy), Radiotherapy, and multidisciplinary cancer management.

Your 5-Year Journey to Becoming a Clinical Oncologist

A structured pathway designed to build expertise in cancer care for Papua New Guinea

Step 1

Meet Eligibility Criteria

Complete 2 years of residency post-MBBS and 1 year as a service registrar.

Step 2

Part 1 - Foundational Training

Months 1-24

Focuses on basic medical sciences and foundational modules like radiation physics and radiobiology.

Step 3

Part 2 - Advanced Clinical Training

Months 24-60

Develops advanced practical skills, sub-specialisations, and includes a mandatory research project.

Step 4

Graduation & Specialist Recognition

Trainees are awarded the MMed degree and recognised as specialist Clinical Oncologists in PNG.
